Badfish/Boardworks Grom Team Rider Miles Checks In
11 year old Team Rider Miles Harvey is one of our most stoked river SUP paddlers. He has been getting after it early in the season and he checks in with this update.
“I have been paddling all winter in my warm gear at low flows in my hometown, Salida, Colorado. The water has come up in the last month and it’s been really cool.
At CKS Paddlefest, in Buena Vista, CO, I taught people about Badfish/Boardworks SUP boards at the pond demo and I helped teach a river surfing clinic with Mike T. Also I got to surf with Nick Troutman who is one of my favorite professional kayakers.
Also during Paddlefest I won a race called the SUPhill Downhill. The SUPhill Downhill was a SUP race on the river where you attain upstream and come back down through a course. I used the 12’6 SHUBU inflatable by Boardworks. After the race I got interviewed by the Denver Post it was really cool for me to be in the Denver Post. Here is the article.
I ran Browns Canyon with almost the whole Badfish Team after Paddlefest. I paddled the 7’6 Sharkskin MVP-S by Badfish. The river was 1200cfs and the rapids were pretty technical class III. The board punched over everything and didn’t want to sink under. I was wearing a WRSI Moment Full Face which made me feel more comfortable in big rapids. I cleaned most of the rapids, it was a little scary at the top but once I did it, it was really fun. We shot video and you will see the video soon.
I’m going to race in the GoPro Mountain Games on June 8-9. Right now I am in my hometown Salida. We have been surfing a bunch while the river is high. I have been messing around with different FCS fin set ups on my custom Badfish River Surfer. I have been trying twin fin and it makes the board really loose so I can do big grinds and work on 360′s.
Thanks to Boardworks Surf, Badfish SUP, WRSI Helmets & CKS for supporting me. -Miles Harvey, Salida, CO”
